St. Elizabeth’s Choir will be singing at Christchurch Episcopal School for a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. program on Monday, January 17 at 11am. Christchurch School is located at 49 Seahorse Lane, Christchurch, Virginia 23031.

OVERBY SHEPPARD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

You can help our neighbors at Overby Sheppard Elementary School. Donate any of the following items. You can drop them off after Sunday Mass or at the parish office. If you shop online (i.e. Amazon, Target), place and order and ship it directly to the school. The address is Overby Sheppard Elementary School, 2300 1st Ave, Richmond, VA 23222. You can mail gift cards, too.
1.  “Oops” kits ( for kid’s accidents): Underwear, shirts, and pants (all sizes)
2. Winter clothes: shirts and pants (all sizes)
3. Kids’ masks
4. Reusable water bottles
5. Belts (all sizes)
6. Rewards for attendance: McDonald’s gift cards, etc.

FAITH & RACE PROGRAM STARTING JANUARY 29

St. Paul’s Catholic Church will host a nine-week program on issues of faith and race in early 2022. The facilitators for the program will be Deacons Charles Williams, Deacon John Tucker, and Ms. Cheryl Curbeam. Deacon Charles is a Deacon at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart and the Director of the Office for Black Catholics for the Diocese of Richmond. Deacon John is a Deacon at St. Paul’s. Ms. Curbeam is a parishioner at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church and is a consultant for the Office for Black Catholics for the Diocese of Richmond.

The program is intensive; participants are expected to attend ten meetings (running January 29 through April 4, 6:30-8:30 pm). St. Paul’s received a grant from the Diocese to conduct this program; therefore, there is no cost to participants. The program is limited to 15 participants. As of now, we have six openings for the program. ST. ELIZABETH & SACRED HEART BOOK CLUB STARTING JANUARY 25

Our joint book group with Sacred Heart Southside will now be reading, studying, and discussing on Zoom Richmond’s Unhealed History by Rev. Benjamin Campbell.  Rev Campbell was the pastoral director at Richmond Hill. Sessions are at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, January 25, February 8 & 22, March 8 & 22, and April 19.  Everyone is on their own for acquiring the book.  To get the link to join on Zoom, email [email protected]

RISC: HEALTHY HOMES ACTION

St. Elizabeth’s, with our partner organization, RISC (Richmonders Involved to Strengthen our Communities), is doing research aimed at assisting those in the Richmond area who are living in trailers and/or living with mold in their homes.  If you are someone or know someone who lives in a trailer and/or lives with mold in your home, we have a simple survey we would like you to complete. UPDATE ON COVID

Community Testing Sites
With the Omicron variant’s higher levels of transmissibility, getting tested at the first sign of COVID-19 symptoms is more important than ever. Individuals who are experiencing symptoms can get tested at a number of different community testing sites in Central Virginia. Information is available on the VDH website, which also filters locations for free testing, Spanish language accessibility, and pediatric testing capabilities. Richmond Public Library and Chesterfield County Public Library has a limited number of COVID-19 rapid antigen at-home test kits to distribute free to the public. Visit their websites or call your nearest branch for more information.

Vaccine Clinics
City of Richmond: Weekly vaccine clinic schedules can be accessed here. Appointments are not required, but they are encouraged. You can make an appointment online or call (804) 205-3501.
Chesterfield and Powhatan: Vaccines are available at the Community Vaccination Center (CVC) located at the Rockwood Vaccination Clinic at 10161 Hull Street Road in Midlothian. The CVC is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00am to 5:30pm. Pfizer vaccinations for 5 to 11 year olds are available by appointment only.
