RISC CALL TO ACTION for Mayor’s Budget

Emily Small, RISC Lead Organizer, updated us on the progress of securing dedicated funding for the city’s Affordable Housing Trust Fund. Richmond mayor Levar Stoney and City Council finally approved the fund. It will start with $2 million and add more each year to eventually reach $10 million by 2025. With thousands facing eviction, we need more funding NOW. Emily said in her email to members:

“Our city has been suffering from an affordable housing crisis, made worse over decades, and made even worse by the pandemic. $10 million, yearly, is what needs to happen.”

Mayor Stoney’s proposed budget will be publicly released on Friday, March 5. Every Monday between now and then, every RISC member needs to send Mayor Stoney an email. In your email you can urge the Mayor to put $10 million for the Affordable Housing Trust Fund in the city’s proposed FY22 operating budget.

Emily has prepared emails that you can send the Mayor every week. Visit https://www.riscrichmond.org/ and sign up for their email list. You will receive talking points and dates for upcoming meetings.
