During his general audience, shortly after the killing of George Floyd, Pope Francis said “My friends, we cannot tolerate or turn a blind eye to racism and exclusion in any form and yet claim to defend the sacredness of every human life.” The Social Justice Committee decided to put the Pope’s words into action. The committee’s focus is RACIAL EQUITY. They will address Racial Equity in 10 areas, with the primary focus on five issues: Racial Equity in Education, Housing, Faithful Citizenship, Economy, and Violence.
The 10 issues posted here are not an inclusive (nor exclusive) list of the issues we will discuss in the coming year. The focus of the committee will ebb and flow with the parish’s call for justice.
We invite you to be an agent of change. Join St. Elizabeth’s Social Justice Committee. We invite any interested parishioners, especially those impacted by structural racial inequity, to join the committee. The committee tries to meet at least once a month. There is no financial obligation, just your passion for social justice.
